See what a 13-year-old thinks about Apple’s Final Cut Pro X.
This is part of a series that shares different editors’ opinions on Apple’s Final Cut Pro X. These editors have taken time out of their schedule to provide their thoughts on the application. The views and expressions in this blog post may not represent those of Final Cut Whiz.
Who am I?
My name is Lauren and I work on a team of editors and am the youngest. I’m 13 years old and the rest of my team’s age ranges from 17-26. I’ve been editing since I was 8 and I joined this team last year. I got into it because I had made a short film with a couple of friends and submitted it into a contest for amazon’s editing zone. A couple of weeks later, I got this email from the team requesting a reel. After I sent the reel, I got a really quick response accepting me into their team. I showed up to work the next day very satisfied. The applications that I’ve used are Adobe Premiere Elements, iMovie, Final Cut 7, Final Cut Express, After Effects, Maya, Motion, Final Cut Pro, and our team just got Final Cut Studio.
My Experience With FCPX
We decided to purchase Final Cut Pro X when it came out because we needed a new software. We work on iMacs and Macbook Pros so, this seemed like the best software for us. One of my colleagues and I were working on a short film and were having a tough time editing with Express (which we were assigned to use) and so we decided to get Final Cut Pro X.
When we first used it, I was on a project which was a short film. This was my second time doing a short film and I wanted it to be better then my first one. When we first got FCPX, I had no idea what to do; there were endless possibilities with all of the different effects and modes. I had trouble keying the project, but was very satisfied with the import system and rendering. Overall, I’m very happy that we purchased this software and it’s made a big difference in our projects.
FCPX has increased my speed of editing. Most people say that I’m a slow editor, but that’s not the case. I have trouble shooting (personal projects.) On work projects, I’m much faster then when I used to use Express. I love working with this software and as I already said, it’s made a BIG difference in my projects. It used to take me a year to complete a short film, but so far with FCPX, my current short film is almost done at 2 months in.
Conclusion
FCPX is what I use everyday at work, so I hope that it just keeps growing and growing. It’s always been there for me. I wish that all editors could use FCPX because it’s truly a blessing to be able to work with it. Editing is what I love, so I’m extremely happy to be with it. I think FCPX is great how it is, but in a few years, it will be even better!
