Sometimes you may just want only video or only audio when bringing in media from your Event Browser to your Timeline in Final Cut Pro X. Luckily, there is a simple way to do this.

Below is a video tutorial by Dan Allen explaining how to achieve this.

Dan does a great job at explaining this feature. Plus, he also has tons of other tutorials over on his YouTube channel. Go check it out!

Here is my written tutorial for anyone who cannot access the video or would prefer a written tutorial.

So if you decide that you would like only video or audio when taking clips from your Event Browser into the Timeline, head over to the section highlighted in the screenshot below.

Connect, Insert, or Append the clip.

This is where you choose how to import your clip into the timeline.

That section is where you choose whether to connect your clip, insert your clip, or append your clip. But, you can also choose whether to insert just video, audio, or all into the Timeline. Just click that drop-down arrow to the right of those icons.

Choose whether to insert video only, audio only, or all. There you can choose the type of media you want to import into the Timeline. For those who are keyboard shortcut junkies, you can also press option+1 to insert all, option+2 to insert video only, and option+3 to insert audio only.

Knowing these shortcuts and the shortcuts to insert (W), connect (Q), and append (E) will allow you to cut even faster!
